Lamborghini has revealed the Urus SE Performante, and it is now the most powerful version of the brand’s SUV to date. Lamborghini has confirmed that the new Urus SE Performante uses a plug-in hybrid setup built around a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor. Together, they produce 812 CV, or around 800hp, and 1,000Nm of torque.
Compared with the standard Urus SE, the Performante gets more power while retaining the same basic hybrid layout. Lamborghini says it can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 312km/h, or around 194mph.
The powertrain uses a 25.9kWh battery mounted beneath the load floor, helping lower the centre of gravity. It also allows the Urus SE Performante to drive in electric-only mode for more than 60km.
As you would expect from a Performante model, Lamborghini has not just added power. The SUV gets a recalibrated eight-speed automatic transmission, an all-wheel-drive system with an electronically controlled central clutch and a new Rally mode for loose surfaces.
Lamborghini has also worked on the way the Urus SE Performante handles, not just how much power it makes. It has introduced its AURA dual-chamber air suspension system, which is designed to reduce body roll during fast driving while also improving comfort. The company says roll has been reduced by 55 percent, with comfort-related vibrations cut by 25 percent compared with the previous Urus Performante.
Weight has also come down, thanks to more carbon fibre across the bodywork and a titanium Akrapovič exhaust. The Urus SE Performante is 32kg lighter than the standard Urus SE.
Aerodynamics are sharper as well, with a 3 percent reduction in drag compared with the Urus SE and 23 percent more downforce. Brake cooling has also improved by 8 percent.
Lamborghini has not announced pricing yet, but this will almost certainly cost more than the standard Urus SE. With more power, less weight, and a more serious aero work, the Urus SE Performante looks like Lamborghini’s wildest SUV so far.
