QUAD has introduced two loudspeakers designed to bring its sound to a more accessible price point. The new Elegan series includes the compact Elegan 1 and the larger floorstanding Elegan 2.
Both models share the same understated styling and are available in matt black or real walnut veneer. Their design also complements QUAD’s recent electronics, while the walnut version gives the speakers a more traditional appearance.
QUAD has designed both speakers around woven Kevlar drivers, chosen for their light weight and rigidity. They are paired with fabric-dome tweeters and waveguides that spread high frequencies more evenly around the room.
The Elegan 1 uses a two-way setup with a 165mm Kevlar mid/bass driver and a 25mm tweeter. Its smaller cabinet is intended for compact listening spaces, with bass extension reaching down to 44Hz.
More space brings more hardware in the Elegan 2, which has a three-way design for larger rooms. Twin 165mm bass drivers are joined by a dedicated 125mm midrange unit, while low frequencies extend down to 32Hz.
That separate midrange driver sits inside its own enclosure to help keep vocals and instruments clear. A 25mm fabric-dome tweeter handles the higher frequencies using the same waveguide approach found in the smaller model.
Both speakers use internally braced cabinets to reduce unwanted vibration. QUAD’s Airflow bass reflex system also uses carefully shaped ports to reduce turbulence and keep the low end controlled.
The Elegan 1 costs £749 (approx. $995) per pair, while the Elegan 2 is priced at £1,499 (approx. $1,990) per pair. Both models became available on July 24 in the UK.
For buyers, the choice will largely come down to room size and how much bass they need. The Elegan 1 is the more compact and affordable option, while the Elegan 2 is better suited to larger spaces.
